Chinese Rail Fastener Manufacturer Expands Tie Plate Production for Global Heavy-Haul and High-Speed Projects

Expands Tie Plate Production

A leading Chinese manufacturer of railway fastening components has announced the launch of its latest range of cast ductile iron tie plates, designed to meet the demanding requirements of heavy-haul freight corridors, high-speed passenger lines, and urban transit systems. The new baseplates, which form a critical part of the complete rail fastening system, are already being shipped to projects in Southeast Asia, Africa and South America.

Tie plates – also known as baseplates or sole plates – sit between the rail and the sleeper, distributing the wheel load, protecting the sleeper surface, and providing the correct rail seat inclination. The company’s new product line covers single-shoulder, double-shoulder, and flat tie plates for use with timber, concrete and steel sleepers. All plates are cast from high-grade ductile iron (QT450-10 or equivalent) and machined to tight tolerances for consistent clip shoulder performance and reliable gauge retention.

“We have invested in automated moulding lines and precision CNC machining centres to ensure every baseplate leaves the factory with the correct dimensions and a smooth rail seat,” said the company’s Sales Director. “Our customers in the mining and freight sectors need track fasteners that can handle axle loads above 35 tonnes day after day. These new tie plates, combined with our spring steel rail clips and elastic pads, give them a rail fastening system that stays stable over very long maintenance cycles.”

The tie plates are available with a range of surface treatments, including black oxide, zinc plating, and epoxy coating, to suit environments from dry desert regions to humid coastal areas. Each plate is individually inspected for dimensional accuracy and hardness, with full material traceability provided in the shipment documentation. The manufacturing process is covered by the company’s ISO 9001 quality management system, and several plate designs already hold CRCC certification for use on Chinese national railway projects.

Industry observers note that demand for high-quality railway baseplates continues to grow as more countries upgrade their freight and passenger networks. By offering a fully integrated supply of tie plates, rail clips, pads, insulators and screw spikes, Chinese manufacturers are positioning themselves as one-stop suppliers of complete rail fastening systems. This integration simplifies procurement for international contractors and reduces the risk of component mismatch during track installation and long-term railway maintenance.

With a monthly production capacity of several thousand tonnes of cast baseplates and a dedicated export packaging facility, the company expects to increase its share of the international track fasteners market over the next three years. Sample orders for the new tie plates are now being accepted, and technical data sheets can be requested through the company’s export department.
